Crawlability and indexation
- Confirm robots.txt allows crawling of public pages.
- Remove any development-stage
noindextags before launch. - Ensure important content is present in the HTML rather than loaded only by JavaScript.
- Make sure every page is reachable through normal links, with no orphan pages.
XML sitemap
Publish an XML sitemap listing every indexable page, reference it in robots.txt and submit it in the search engine webmaster tools you use. Keep it updated when pages are added or removed.
Canonical URLs and duplicates
Each page should declare a canonical URL. Choose one version of your domain (with or without www, always HTTPS) and redirect the others to it.
Titles, descriptions and headings
Give every page a unique, descriptive title and meta description, a single H1 and a logical H2/H3 hierarchy. Duplicated titles make it harder for search engines to tell pages apart.
Structured data
Use JSON-LD to describe your organisation, website, services, articles and breadcrumbs where relevant. Only mark up information that is accurate and visible to visitors.
Redirects from old URLs
If you are replacing an existing site, map every old URL to its closest new equivalent with a permanent redirect. Our website redesign service treats this mapping as a core deliverable.
